PHS Parents,

As many of you know by now, the Blount County Board of Education will offer Remote Learning Opportunities for our students.  I realize that this is a tough decision for many of you with all the conflicting information out there.  What I can tell you is that Pennington High has worked diligently to prepare for this time and we have the absolute best interest of our students in mind.  We have researched best practices, brainstormed, and planned for each known situation COVID puts us in during the school day and. also for extracurricular activities. This situation is always dynamic and please know that we will adapt and assess daily if a different method is needed to combat this ever-changing situation.  We will do everything possible to keep your children and our staff safe from this virus.  We will need your help from home by educating your children on specific health and safety protocols to effectively pull this off.

These are trying times and it is our belief that there is no substitute for a classroom teacher, however; if you choose for your child to learn remotely, we will make that happen.  In order for our staff to keep fair and equitable learning opportunities, remote learning and traditional face to face learning will be evaluated by the same assessment and the same activities.  The rigor for this planned remote learning will be greater than the emergency planning that was expected this past Spring. Please consider this information when making your decision.

With all that being said, PHS is continuing to plan for this process, and the absolute deadline (the earlier the better for our planning) for signing up for remote learning is July 27, 2020.   Please sit down with your family and weigh as much of the information as you have to make this decision. I understand that the amount of conflicting information is disconcerting and is very difficult to navigate.  Just know that if you decide to send your child to PHS we will do everything possible to keep them safe.  Below is the link for remote learning.  Make sure that you choose the correct school before you register.  Also, you can go to http://www.blountboe.net/cms/One.aspx?portalId=81182&pageId=25693327for complete information regarding the current Roadmap for reopening Blount County Schools.

Please Share.

God Bless,

Brian Kirk
